My Black Power IS -In 2019 B.N. Blithe de Carona was invited to exhibit work in a gallery show titled, The Cat in All Black. The purpose of the show was to pay homage to the many ways that Blackness has informed not just American pop culture; but the world as a whole. For this show, the artist decided to show respect for two of her favorite artists: Hank Willis Thomas & Lance Jeffers. Using text from the Jeffers book, “My Blackness is the Beauty of this Land” and an image from the Hank Willis Thomas “BLACK POWER” piece, de Carona created a collage work to honor these two aforementioned greats. Originally, this original piece was part of a series of pre-made graffiti which included multiple images of Black people in grills super-imposed over Lance Jeffers text. However, the My Black Power IS print (which has never been for sale before February 2021) has become the most highly requested print by de Carona, after she gifted 30+ copies of the print to lower income Black folks for a Juneteenth art giveaway in 2020. Thus, it is now available to purchase in limited quantity & exclusively through Miiriya. All originals in the series have been purchased & no other prints of the collective original series will be made available for purchase.
