Within the threads of this handwoven sisal basket lies the stories and bonds between mother and daughter from the Kenyan Kamba and Taita tribes through apprenticeship and cultural preservation of the basket weaving technique passed down through generations of women as a way to cope with dry seasons, in anticipation of the rain.
A strand of natural sisal is obtained from the leaves of the sisal plant, hand dyed then rolled to twine onto the laps of the women who then weave the baskets. It takes them each about a week to complete a single basket.
These sisal baskets have evolved with the times in the hands of the multiple generations of daughters that skillfully apply the weaving technique passed down from their foremothers whilst artistically enhancing their style and design to match upcoming trends.

I bought one of these baskets a few months ago to hold my blankets. I really love the quality of the basket and the vibrant yellow color! I will definitely be ordering from them again.
