Brianna Noble is an able-bodied Black, Latinx surviving in a predominantly urban white community. This, on its own, brings context to the artist’s work- no matter how hard they attempt to avoid it because living in a Black body in 2021 is still a political statement. On the other hand, when intentional, Noble uses the idea that sex sells, so the viewers will be driven to look. They then add different ways to disrupt the viewer’s gaze such as satire with abrasive wording and drawings to remind the viewer the figure depicted is a human with a mind too. A human who is in control of their body and reproductive choices, even if they are put on display “sexually”. Noble hopes that the next person with a similar experience can find familiarity and live by their own devices too.
