Earlier this year, I underwent back surgery that required a lengthy recovery period. To my dismay, I had to undergo a second surgery in March. Compounding the situation is the fact that my current job is contract-based, offering no benefits, short-term FMLA, or adequate sick leave and I work for the government so the certainty of me keeping my job has cause an immense amount of pressure. The thought of losing my job due to a prolonged medical leave compelled me to return to work earlier than I should have, all while enduring the pain and searching for a remote job that would allow me to recover at home without financial repercussions. Many have wondered why I haven’t taken the time to care for myself. The simple truth is that I am a parent with a 2-year-old son, and my primary concern is securing his future and providing for my family. My husband and I have a home to maintain and are resolute in our efforts to ensure stability for our son. Despite my husband’s hard work, there’s been significant setbacks and pay cuts , leaving us struggling to afford groceries and basic necessities. The surgeries, coupled with the days I’ve missed from work over these past months, have created a significant financial burden. Without stable income, I am falling behind on rent and struggling to provide food for my family, jeopardizing our housing security and our ability to meet our son’s basic needs. Today, I turn to you for assistance in raising funds to cover our rent and groceries during this difficult time.
