Vendor Biography

I am Alexis Fowler, a.k.a. semimindful art. Currently, I live and work in a collective home and creative space in Houston, Texas alongside several of my closest friends and our cat, Tomato. I spend most of my time at my desk making large messes while listening intently to long-form educational YouTube content or humming show tunes from Cats: the Musical.

I’ve loved making art for as long as I can remember, but I’m very new to art as a career. I went to a fancy school and tried very hard to become a scientist, but I accidentally became completely disillusioned with the education system instead. Though I’ve now given up on formal academia, I feel strongly that scientific thinking is extremely powerful regardless of the context. To this day, I rely heavily on concepts and systems from my STEM days in my creative process.

I make these products in keeping with the philosophy that art is more powerful when it’s functional and interactive: art can and should be joined to every aspect of human experience, rather than seen as separate from “regular” objects. Each piece of jewelry in my shop is both a miniature work of art and a practical instrument of personal expression.
